The energy industries found in the North East of Scotland are a crucial component to not only our economy in the region but Scotland as a whole. It’s because of this and the number of people who rely on the industry for work that we must ensure it gets the support it needs.
That means backing the oil & gas industry as it transitions in an appropriate manner that doesn’t pull the rug from underneath workers and businesses in North East Scotland. The UK Government has stepped up to support workers and businesses to transition with its North Sea Transition Deal which seeks to deliver up to £16 billion of investment into the energy industries in the North East.
While the UK Government is stepping up, the SNP – propped up by the Greens – are threatening to turn their backs on the North East with some members of the Scottish Government calling for the Oil & Gas industry to be shut down immediately. Such a reckless decision would be disastrous for our region.
That’s why I vow to stand up for our Oil & Gas industry, it’s workers, and the businesses that rely on it by supporting a responsible and just transition. Reaching Net Zero is an absolute must if we want to do our bit to tackling climate change. We can achieve this without leaving Aberdeen and the North East of Scotland in darkness by transforming it into the net zero energy capital of tomorrow.
