As convener of the Cross Party Group on Rugby Development in Scotland Douglas Lumsden hosted some of the players and coaches from both the men’s and women’s Scotland Rugby teams. The event, held in Holyrood, included a Q&A sessions with the coaches to discuss the benefits of rugby in Scotland.
“It was great to have some of Scotland’s rugby stars come along and speak to us about how we in Parliament can help support the development of the sport across Scotland.”
Douglas spoke of the importance of rugby in helping to boost mental health across Scotland, particuarlly amongst Scotland’s youth.
“As was shared by the coaches that joined us, rugby, like many sports, is one that can have a tremendous impact on the mental health of everyone. It is absolutely crucial that we support the development of Rugby in Scotland and ensure that it continues to be an inclusive and transformative part of life in Scotland.”
Also attending the event was the family of David Hill, a close friend of many in Holyrood across party lines, who tragically passed away earlier this year.
“Thank you to everyone who joined us in raising a glass to David, who we continue to miss every day.”
